PicoSure Tattoo Removal FAQ
So you’ve made the decision to get that tattoo removed… now what?
You probably have a few questions, and we’ve tried our best to think of all of them. If you have any other questions, please feel free to call us at the office at (540) 283-6015.
Does PicoSure laser tattoo removal hurt?
It can be uncomfortable and is usually described as the same discomfort as tattooing. The PicoSure laser uses intense pulsed light energy, and it feels like a pinprick or hot sensation. We’ll apply a topical numbing agent to help relieve any discomfort you might feel.
How much does laser tattoo removal cost?
Every person’s experience with laser tattoo removal will be unique. The total cost of your treatment will depend on the size of your tattoo, depth of the ink, colors of the ink, and even your skin type. We’ll be able to give you a better estimate of cost during your consultation.
The initial consultation is $50, but we’ll take that fee off the total if you decide to proceed with the laser tattoo removal. Call (540) 283-6015 to schedule a consultation today.
How long will the tattoo removal sessions last?
The length of your session will also depend on the size, depth, and colors of your ink. Typically, sessions will last between 15 and 45 minutes, but actual treatment time is less than 5 minutes.
How long will the tattoo removal process take?
The time it takes to achieve a clear removal will depend on the ink colors in your tattoo and the depth of the ink. A small grey work piece, for example, might achieve full clearance in four to six sessions. Colored inks could take seven or more treatments to achieve full clearance.
What happens during the PicoSure laser tattoo removal process?
As the light energy from the laser targets the ink in the tattoo, the surface of the skin may experience what we call “frosting,” when the skin containing the pigment turns white. The laser targets only the ink, so the surrounding skin is left alone. Afterward, your skin may feel tender, like you have a sunburn. You’ll want to keep it bandaged and apply an aquaphor ointment several times a day for a few days. You’ll receive complete aftercare instructions following your treatment. (Tattoo Aftercare)
Are there risks with PicoSure laser tattoo removal?
It’s considered a medical procedure, so yes, there are some inherent risks. These could include hypo/hyper pigmentation and rarely, scarring, which happens in less than 2% of cases.
Following a tattoo removal, your skin may lose the ability to create pigment in that area, so if you get a tan, the treated area may not darken as the rest of your skin does.
