Preparing For a Treatment

After you’ve had your initial PicoSure laser skin repair consultation and decided to proceed with treatment, there are few steps you’ll need to take to prepare.

Avoid the sun. Getting too much color in the weeks before your laser skin procedure could result in hypopigmentation and/or hyperpigmentation after the procedure. Wear sunscreen SPF 50 and cover the area to be treated when in the sun for about six weeks before your treatment.  If you are in the sun after treatment sunscreen is a must to prevent discoloration of the area treated. Apply sunscreen with SPF 50 to treated area; reapply every 2 hours to avoid potential discoloration. Tanning beds are to be avoided as well.

Take a pain reliever. Though PicoSure skin laser treatments aren’t painful, they can leave the skin a little swollen and tender for a day or two afterward. If you take a pain reliever about an hour prior to your appointment, it can help alleviate any swelling or discomfort that may result.  Numbing cream will be applied before the procedure if requested.

Arrive with clean skin. We’ll prepare your skin prior to the procedure, but please arrive to your appointment without make-up, perfumes or lotions on the area of skin that will be treated. Shave area to be treated if necessary.

Be sure to tell us during your initial consultation about any medications you may be taking. We’ll let you know if you should discontinue any of those medications, and for how long, you should abstain from taking them before and after your laser skin repair treatment.
